What Tarot Readings Can Reveal

What Tarot Will Not Reveal

First, I want to explain what tarot readings will not reveal, because there are a lot of misconceptions about this.

Tarot readings will not tell you if you will win a million dollars tomorrow. Tarot will not tell you definite future occurrences set in stone. It will not tell you the exact day your dog, fish, or cat will depart this realm. That is not what tarot is for, and any reader who tells you otherwise is not being honest about how tarot works.

What tarot will do is tap into your energy and give you a range of possible outcomes based on your current path and the direction things are naturally moving. Tarot is about insight and guidance. It is not about fixed events or guaranteed predictions.

Questions that demand exact outcomes are part of what gives tarot a bad reputation. And to be honest, I do blame the reader to some degree. Some inexperienced or money-hungry tarot readers will tell you anything they think you want to hear just to get your hard-earned money. Do not fall victim to this.

Tarot is a divination tool used to tap into your energy. The reader pulls cards that call to them and reads what they receive based on the imagery, colors, suits, and overall energy during the reading. Everything matters during a reading. Everything is a sign.

I make sure to pay attention to and report any events I experience during a reading because it all counts. If I get a belly ache while reading a particular message from a card, maybe someone’s gut is screaming at them to trust their intuition. Maybe if we are talking about a particular person, that person makes the querent feel sick. You never know. I say that jokingly, but also very seriously. Energy shows up in many different ways.

Tarot Is More Than Just the Cards

Tarot cards are not all that matters during a reading. An intuitive reader is not only reading the cards — they are also reading the energy in the room, your energy, their own intuitive messages, and the overall feeling of the reading.

This is so important, and a lot of people don’t realize this. Tarot is not just someone flipping cards over and reading from a book. A good tarot reader is interpreting symbols, energy, patterns, and intuitive messages all at the same time. The cards are a tool, but they are not the only tool.

So now that I’ve told you what tarot will not do, let’s talk about what tarot can do for you.

Tarot Can Open Your Mind

Tarot can open your mind and make you more aware of what energies you have been holding onto, what you should be paying attention to, and what may do you some good to let go of.

That’s what tarot is really about — awareness. Awareness of your patterns, your emotions, your relationships, your fears, your strengths, and your choices.

I am not a fortune teller, and I will never claim to be. When I hear the word fortune, I think of riches and wealth, not destiny or fate. That’s actually the irony of the Wheel of Fortune card. The Wheel of Fortune is not about money falling from the sky. It’s about cycles.

The wheel is always turning. Someone will be at the top, and someone will be at the bottom. The person at the bottom of the wheel, crushed by life circumstances, wants and longs to fight to get to the top. And the person at the top hopes they can stay there as long as possible.

There’s a saying in French: “à chacun son heure de gloire” — everyone gets their moment of glory. Life moves in cycles, and tarot helps you understand what part of the cycle you are currently in.

When people believe tarot tells their fortune, they start expecting specific things to happen. When those things don’t happen exactly the way they expected, they get upset and blame the reader or blame tarot.

Sometimes people even try to force an outcome because they want to hold onto that “fortune.” They may avoid something that could have helped them, all because they are trying to control the outcome instead of understanding the lesson.

Tarot is not about control. Tarot is about understanding.

Tarot Can Help You Grow in Relationships

Tarot has a powerful way of helping people understand their relationships better. You may be at a stalemate in a relationship — whether it’s with family, a partner, a friend, or even a coworker.

A tarot reading can help reveal:

  • The energy between two people
  • Hidden feelings
  • Miscommunication
  • Emotional blocks
  • The direction the relationship is moving
  • What each person may need to work on

A tarot reader should be able to pick up cues in the cards about the direction a relationship is taking and what role you are playing in that situation. Tarot doesn’t just tell you about the other person — it also holds up a mirror and shows you to you.

That part can be uncomfortable sometimes, but it is necessary for growth.

Tarot Is a Tool for Guidance, Not Fear

A tarot reading should never leave you feeling scared, hopeless, or like your life is doomed. A good reading should leave you feeling aware, empowered, and clear.

Tarot is meant to guide you, not control you.
Tarot is meant to show you possibilities, not trap you in a fixed future.
Tarot is meant to help you grow, not make you dependent.

You always have free will. You always have choices. Tarot simply shows you the energy surrounding those choices so you can make better decisions.

Final Thoughts: Come With an Open Mind

When you go in for a tarot reading, keep your mind open. Tarot works best when you are open to receiving insight, even if it’s not exactly what you expected to hear.

If you have an appointment coming up, make sure you are asking the right kind of questions. The quality of your questions often determines the quality of your reading.

Tarot can’t live your life for you, but it can definitely help you understand it better.

And sometimes, clarity is worth more than knowing the future.
